Forget the X Factor and make Free Nelson Mandela the Christmas No 1
The likes of Lily Allen, Highway to Hell, the X Factor finalists and the cast of reality TV series The Big Reunion - including 911, Blue, B*witched, 5ive, Atomic Kitten and Liberty X – who have covered of Wizzard’s 1973 hit, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday – have all got their eye on the Christmas number one slot.
But wouldn’t it be great if Free Nelson Mandela – the song by Special AKA that helped change the world - secured the coveted Christmas number one slot this year as a celebration of the late leader’s life?
So here at Student365 we’re campaigning HARD to drive the 1984 single that spread anti-apartheid sentiment across the globe, to the top of the charts this Christmas.
For while we’re all mourning the loss of the man affectionately known as Madiba, it’s also a time to celebrate the achievements of South Africa’s inspirational freedom fighter who took history in his own hands.
Or as President Obama put it: “Madiba transformed South Africa and moved all of us. His journey from a prisoner to a president embodied the promise that human beings — and countries — can change for the better.”
