Bar of the week: Artesian at The Langham

KH drinks at Artesian - the luxurious Langham Hotel bar that was recently named the 'best bar in the world' for the third year running

Just a stone’s throw away from the chaos of Oxford Circus lies the luxurious Langham hotel- home to Artesian Bar which was recently named the Polignac World’s Best Bar for the third year in a row.

And rightly so: there’s arguably no finer space in the capital in which to enjoy an expertly mixed cocktail in handsome surroundings.

Designed by the late David Collins, the room blends the old (an imposing marble bar and inset mirrors) with the new (snakeskin effect leather seats and staff who treat everyone with respect) to striking effect.

The drinks list boasts an array of tipples for the discerning drinker to choose from but if you’re in the mood to try something different, ask for Artesian’s ‘Unfolding and Exploring’ menuwhich allows guests to ‘unfold’ new experiences and ‘explore’ unusual ingredients.  Highlights include the Heston Blumenthal-esque Camouflage (Tanqueray No Ten, Americano, Carrot, Kombucha and Sandalwood) and the visually stunning Digidiva (Absolut Elyx, Cyrpress, Aquai Di Cedro) - two huge creations well worth the expense (£17 each). Time, Space & Honey - a generous flute filled with Grey Goose, Parsnip, Honey and Champagne - and the innovative Dream Within A Dream (Waqar, Suze, Guava, Citrus and Ash) also live up to expectations.

Elegant platters of nibbles like caramelised cashew nuts and artisan crisps and mini macaroons magically materialise with drinks, but if you’re need something more sustaining there’s a selection of sharing platters, sandwiches, dim sum, deserts, caviar and oysters. All told, Artesian is a very agreeable spot.
