The Indian Ocean paradise has enticed everyone who is anyone
The charms of the Maldives have been well documented, but done nothing to dent their power. And for good reason: these idyllic islands invariably feature on any and every travel bucket list because – well they’re worth it.
Don’t believe us? Just ask ex Strictly Come Dancing pro, Ola Jordan, who has spent the last week sunning herself in the Maldives alongside her husband, James.
The professional dancer who went onto appear on I’m A Celebrity isn’t the only one to have been snapped in this sun-kissed paradise. Singer Rita Ora was recently in the Maldives on holiday- and celebrated by sharing endless snaps on social media.
Elsewhere formerTOWIE star turned This Morning showbiz reporter, Ferne McCann, was photographed in the Maldives in March - while Katie Price enjoyed a second honeymoon with hubby Kieran and the kids, earlier this month.
The former glamour model checked into the plush Kandima Resort which opened on the tropical Dhaalu Atoll in February, but her trip wasn’t without controversy.
The businesswoman and author risked prosecution in the Islamic country, after exposing her surgically-enhanced chest on a beach.
Other, perhaps more prestigious, celebrities who have stayed and played in the Maldives include footballers Fernando Torres and Cristiano Ronaldo, pop princess Katy Perry, Prince William and Kate Middleton and Brand Beckham…
And given that the Maldives boasts pristine white sandy beaches, fantastic sea-life, friendly locals and yes, endless sunshine, it’s little wonder that the A-listers keep returning year, after year, after year to this dreamy Indian Ocean destination. And that World Travel Awards (the travel industry’s most esteemed awards programme) has chosen to host its Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony on Meedhuffushi Island in the South Nilandhe Atol.
The event will take place at the five-star Sun Aqua Vilu Reef on the 8 July 2017, with hospitality leaders from across the region expected to be in attendance.
Ahead of the Indian Ocean Ceremony, WTA Founder and President Graham Cooke said: “It is an honour for us to reveal Sun Aqua Vilu Reef as the host for the World Travel Awards Indian Ocean Ceremony 2017.
“This is a wonderful resort in a picturesque tourist hotspot. It will be genuine pleasure for us to welcome nominees to the event in July.”
Cooke added: “With voting still open there is a chance for members of the tourism industry and general public to make their voices heard in the build up to the event.”
Voting for the World Travel Awards Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony is open until 22nd May 2017, with more information here: www.worldtravelawards.com/vote.
